The series ended the 16th series by attacking not one of the usual super speedways, it instead took on the fastest 1/2 mile, Bristol. The early race was full of cautions, causing only 6 trucks to finish the race. Boykin shadowed the number 13 of ECT-Q throughout most of the first 3/4 of the race. Late, Q made contact with the wall, forcing him 3 laps down in 6th, behind Boykin's JGR teammate, Robby Neises, who finished 5th. Boykins third place finish, gave Bud a 33 point lead in the final point standings.

Neises fired off a letter of protest during the race, but it was a symbolic geasture.
Neises now has a plan of action, so he at least is on the grid to qualify, even if he doesn't make a run. The series goes to Richmond Saturday, and then ends its "Race to the Chase" the following week at Chicagoland. Neises hasn't officially clinched, but is in 6th place in the "Race to the Chase". Neises admitted that he didnt expect his schedule to fill up much till possibly summer, after he's recuperated from an expected sixth surgery on his back to try to make his life more livable after falling at the Northwest YMCA in Wichita in the hallway going from the locker-room to the pool, which was not marked as slippery when wet.
